Relationship Intelligence seen as key enabler to firm's CRM strategy

Prior to selecting InterAction 5, Browne Jacobson had been relying on a patchwork of systems to manage client and prospect data, including marketing databases, Microsoft® Outlook®, spreadsheets and the like. However, as the firm grew and expanded geographically, maintaining multiple silos of data became unnecessarily costly and inefficient. "Some of these systems could communicate with each other, and some couldn't," recalled Katherine Wilson, the firm's marketing manager. "The lack of a centralised system hampered our client development activities."
Increasingly, lawyers found it difficult to access important Relationship Intelligence in connection with client acquisition and client retention initiatives. "It was extremely time consuming to find out everything we knew about a client or prospect," said Wilson.
Moreover, lawyers' ability to uncover strategic relationships was limited. In one instance a client team was undertaking a competitive tender process for a new health sector client and wanted to position their information to meet the prospect's needs. At some point the team realised that an in-house associate had previously worked for this client. "We were able to talk with the associate to learn more about the organisation, which lead to our winning this account," said Wilson. "The problem is, we found this out by chance. We knew there were likely just as many instances in which we didn't know about the existence of a key relationship. So, we decided we needed a solution."
Browne Jacobson undertook an extensive search for a CRM solution and ultimately determined that InterAction 5 was best suited to address the firm's myriad requirements. "Most of the systems we looked at didn't really apply to our business," explained Wilson.
